Everything's Coming Up Daisies!

I've been seeing lots of sales lately on perennials.  I ran across a fantastic deal on Becky Shasta Daisies.  I couldn't say no.  Plus, I had a buy one, get one 1/2 off coupon.  Naturally, I had to buy two. They were huge.  HUGE!!!

Becky Shasta Daisies are wonderful... drought tolerant, deer resistant, multiplies like crazy, blooms from June to September, plus, they are the friendliest cut flower ever.  White, simple, unassuming, looks good in any vase.  And now I plenty for the yard and for cutting!

These huge bunches were stuffed in way too small pots.  They needed dividing, which was no small job.  They clung together for dear life.  I divided each pot in half, but could have (and probably should have) divided the more.

Note that I was not working alone.  My faithful garden helper, Cindy Lou, supervised.  My darling husband hid.  Where's a man when you need him?

I put three of the bunches on the west side of the house.

They are in the last spot waiting to be planted.  I had planned to put another rose bush next to the steps, but the daisies insisted on being put there.

I had enough left over to fill this large pot (larger than the one they came in).  I put it on the east side of the house.  This area is a hodgepodge of things I'm starting.  It's also an area with a number of things that need doing. This huge pot helps camouflage the underside of the porch.  Will we ever get that space covered?

In this same area, there are two gardenia bushes, which for some reason have both decided to start blooming again.  Isn't this bloom perfection? It stopped me in my tracks.  I had to just stop and stare and take it in.

These two things were very useful today.  The boots look funny but they keep my feet much cleaner and dryer than all the other shoes I've been using as garden shoes.  The stool is an adjustable shower stool.  It's perfect for when you are likely to find yourself squatting in one place for awhile - like when weeding.  Both wash right off with the squirt of a hose.

All day, I was very proud of my accomplishment, til I walked out to gloat and saw my poor daisies looking like this.  Oh, no!  I've murdered them!  I had watered them well after planting and today wasn't that hot or that dry like it's been lately.  I bent down and felt of the soil.  Bone dry.  I watered them again.  An hour later they were perky again.  That drought tolerant bit is for plants that are established.  I'm going to have to keep a close eye on these little ladies for a while.
