Happy Veterans Day! My niece had invited my father to come to her school and be part of the ceremony honoring Veterans. It was really nice.
As we went in the sidewalks were lined with flags.
My friend and former boss, Sharon, was honored with the Army group.
My dad was among those honored with the Navy group.
After each military group stood, each person was honored
and received a special button to wear around their neck.
This is Mrs. Creager (mother of my friend, Susan) receiving her button.
This is my dad standing when his name was called.
My camera is slow slow slow and
I didn't get a picture of the ribbon being put around his neck.
The students in the audience entertained us with patriotic songs. One song included lots of flag waving and it was such a pretty sight with hundreds of flags waving in the air in time to the music.

The school had gathered a number of items to be given to the non-profit Hero Box program.
Our mission is to provide the physical items
and moral support our heroes need
while they are away from home.
The man who started Hero Box spoke and it was really inspiring. It was a huge honor for him to be with us - Hero Box has become an incredible organization. It's been recognized by all 5 living presidents and has many donations for huge corporate sponsors. They are all working to get our soldiers items they really need. He pointed out that we didn't always know what our soldiers need and gave a memorable example. Flea collars were needed by a group of soldiers who were camped at a place with lots of vermin. The soldiers would wear the collars around their belts.
If you would like to do something for our soldiers and don't know what or how, then Hero Box can make it easy for you.
